Following a strong response to their recent expression of interest process, The Australian Ballet School is delighted to welcome two exceptional leaders to its Board: Katie Foulkes and Kristy Ayre.

Katie Foulkes brings more than two decades of global experience in leadership development, organisational culture and high-performance environments. An executive and team coach, Katie advises senior leaders across sectors including technology, education, professional services, sport and government. A dual Olympian and mentor with the Australian Olympic Committee, she has extensive experience supporting elite athletes as they navigate performance, transition and sustained success. Most recently as Director at the Australian Institute of Sport/Australian Sports Commission and an Honorary Fellow of the University of Melbourne, Katie brings deep expertise in leadership, culture and high-performance development.

Kristy Ayre joins the Board with a distinguished career spanning performance, producing, executive leadership and arts advocacy. As former Executive Director and co-CEO of Chunky Move, she played a significant role in shaping Australia’s contemporary dance landscape, leading major artistic projects and national and international touring. Across two decades, Kristy has worked as a performer, rehearsal director, producer, teacher and cultural leader. She brings extensive experience in governance and strategic development, alongside a strong commitment to supporting artists and strengthening organisations across the arts sector.

Adrian Burnett, Chair of The Australian Ballet School Board, said, “We are thrilled to welcome Katie and Kristy to the Board. Their combined expertise in high-performance leadership and the performing arts will be invaluable as the School continues to nurture the next generation of dancers and strengthen its role within Australia’s cultural landscape.”

The appointments come at an exciting time for the School, which has delivered world-class classical ballet training for over 60 years. Renowned for its holistic education philosophy, the Australian Ballet School combines technical excellence and creative exploration in its studios, supported by dedicated strength-and-conditioning facilities, pilates, medical and physiotherapy services. Drawing exceptional young artists and athletes from across Australia and neighbouring countries, the School continues to produce professional dancers of the highest calibre while upholding its core values of excellence, creativity, connection and respect.

With these new directors on board, the organisation is well positioned to advance its mission of nurturing talent, fostering innovation in dance education, and strengthening its vital role in Australia’s cultural landscape for generations to come.
