The Australian Ballet School’s upcoming En Pointe performance, as part of Morning Melodies, features talented full time senior students of the School in a mixed program of works celebrating the art of ballet from uplifting contemporary to the beautifully traditional. This year, the annual performance will be held on 13 May, at Arts Centre Melbourne.

Audiences will enjoy a repertoire filled with the energy, dedication and refined skills of The Australian Ballet School’s young and pre-professional dancers.

Lucas Jervies’ contemporary work, A Dream Story, is a brand new work in which dancers explore the science of sleep and embody the different stages of sleep. The piece delves into the dreamlike motifs and movements that define our nightly journeys, creating a surreal experience on stage.

En Pointe will also include Marius Petipa’s classic Kingdom of the Shades from La Bayadère, perfect for lovers of traditional classical ballet. This iconic moment of a long line of ballerinas showcases the precision and beauty of classical ballet, as the dancers embody the spirits of departed temple dancers.

Melanie Moravski’s brand new character/folk work, Hopak, will also be presented. The work is based on Ukrainian folklore technique, and showcases the versatility of the School’s dancers.

Echoes in Motion, a new classical work, was choreographed by former Principal Artist with The Australian Ballet, Kevin Jackson, who now shares his expertise with the students of The Australian Ballet School.

And finally, Prue Lang has choreographed for The Australian Ballet School for the first time, with the new contemporary work, Lyra. Lang is a Melbourne-based choreographer who has an extensive background with William Forsythe’s companies in Europe, and is known for her innovative contemporary dance works.

En Pointe is just one of many of Morning Melodies offerings. Morning Melodies is Arts Centre Melbourne’s joyful daytime concert series held at Hamer Hall, and 2025 marks the 40th year.
