Whether auditioning for a company, a tertiary dance program, a film, commercial, cruise line or live performance gig, there are a few key things you can do to make the most of your audition experience. Read on to see how to ace your next audition!
#1. Be prepared.
Research the company or choreographer you are auditioning for and familiarise yourself with their style and repertoire. Make sure you have the proper attire and shoes for the audition, and bring your headshot and resume.
#2. Be confident.
Confidence is key in an audition. Walk into the audition with a positive attitude and believe in yourself. Show the audition panel that you are excited to be there and that you are a strong and capable dancer.
#3. Show your versatility.
Dancers who can adapt to different styles and choreography are highly sought after. Be prepared to show your versatility by being able to perform different dance styles such as ballet, jazz and contemporary.
#4. Be attentive.
Follow the instructions and corrections given by the audition panel carefully and with enthusiasm. Show that you are a team player and that you are willing to take direction.
#5. Show your personality.
The audition panel is not only looking at your technique and skill but also at how you present yourself as a person. Show your personality and let it shine through your dance.
#6. Stay focused.
Stay focused throughout the audition, even if you make a mistake. Keep your energy high, and don’t let your nerves get the best of you. We all make mistakes. Remember that, take a deep breath, and keep going.
#7. Follow up.
After the audition, make sure to follow up with a thank you note or email to the audition panel. This will show your professionalism and your continued interest in the opportunity.
