From the cabarets of Paris to the stages of Broadway, cruise ships and spectacular productions around the world, the new Capezio Carmen Character Boot is designed for dancers ready to perform with confidence. Arriving in Australia this December, the beautifully crafted boot draws inspiration from the iconic French Can Can silhouette – a timely debut following the recent Australian audition tour by the legendary Moulin Rouge Paris, which searched across the country for its next generation of performers.

For many Australian dancers, international careers are no longer a distant dream, they are an attainable reality. Alongside the recent Moulin Rouge Paris auditions, VDF’s renowned dance careers expo in Melbourne this past May welcomed casting directors from RWS Global, Norwegian Cruise Line, Disney and Cirque du Soleil, connecting local talent with opportunities to perform across Europe, North America, Asia and at sea. Whether stepping into a Parisian cabaret, a cruise ship contract or a major theatre production at home, today’s dancers are expected to bring not only exceptional technique, but polish, presence and professionalism from the moment they enter the audition room.
That is where the Carmen Character Boot makes its entrance. Inspired by the timeless elegance of traditional French Can Can boots and made from 100% Italian materials and components, the Carmen embodies the craftsmanship that has defined Capezio since founder Salvatore Capezio first began making shoes for dancers in New York in 1887. It is a boot that honours dance history while empowering the next generation of performers to write their own.
“The Carmen has been developed in the ‘Salvatore Capezio way,’ combining deep technical know-how, best-in-class suppliers, and rigorous product engineering to deliver a boot that meets the real demands of dancers while unlocking a high-growth category opportunity,” says Jamila Cherif, Capezio Senior Product Designer/Developer.

The boot’s traditional Can Can styling is defined by a French-cut topline and under-calf height, creating an elegant, authentic silhouette. A form-fitting leather upper moulds to the foot for a streamlined, second-skin fit, while the rounded toe cap provides a more ergonomic shape. Longer laces can be wrapped, tied and tucked away for a secure fit and polished finish, while a discreet side zipper allows for fast, practical changes backstage.
Underfoot, the Carmen has been engineered for both expression and control. A soft sole offers maximum flexibility with minimal break-in time, while Capezio’s new short shank system allows greater foot articulation, making the boot especially suited to jazz, Can Can and precision dance styles. The design is completed by a contoured 2.5-inch leather-covered heel with top lift, created to provide stability and security through demanding choreography.
Bold, alluring and built for performance, the Carmen Character Boot can instil confidence, enhance line and movement, and help performers fully inhabit a role – whether they are auditioning for an international production, performing on a professional stage or pursuing opportunities closer to home.
Be ready to secure your pair this December at Capezio.au or through your local Capezio retailer. The Carmen Character Boot will be available in black in adult sizes 5.5–11 M, and could make for the perfect Christmas gift!
