In the lead up to next weekend’s much anticipated dance event, the Victorian Dance Festival has been nominated for a 2016 Australian Dance Award for Outstanding Achievement in Community Dance!

Festival Directors were notified of the honour yesterday, just as dancers from all over Australia are gearing up for the three day festival, to be held in Warrnambool this year on April 15-17.

“We are very humbled to have been nominated for the Australian Dance Award, Outstanding Achievement in Community Dance. We have an incredible team working behind the scenes to create something special not only for the dance industry to enjoy, but the entire community,” says Festival Director Kate Meade. “Creating opportunities and platforms to develop audience participation, engagement and celebrate the art form has always been a core value of the festival.”

Named in the long list of nominees, the short list will be announced in July.

The dance industry’s most prestigious event, the annual Australian Dance Awards recognise and honour professional Australian dance artists who have made an outstanding contribution to Australian dance.

“We aim to provide an all-inclusive and nurturing environment where  students can learn, express and make connections,” added Festival Artistic Director Paul Malek. “2016 is a real celebration as we head into our 4th event! The support we’ve received has been incredibly humbling. It’s the overwhelming support that drives us to continue to provide the highest quality event possible.”
