Ev & Bow: Innovation, passion and outstanding results

Audition season is upon us, and the next generation of students are beginning to consider their future training options. After a challenging year in and out of lockdown, many of Australia’s favourite full time institutes are re-opening their doors for in-person open days and auditions. One such studio is Ev & Bow. Under the direction of founders Sarah Boulter and Lisa Bowmer, Ev & Bow has earned a reputation for high quality teaching and innovative choreography, with a primary focus on technique and the foundations of dance.

“Ev & Bow stands out as we pay attention to the finer details of our artform,” explains Bowmer. “Our dancers have a strong technical base, taking class in ballet and contemporary every day. Ev & Bow dancers are also known for their individuality and personal style. We boast the highest calibre of teaching faculty, who have sustained careers in the industry for the last few decades.”

The school’s in-depth training program is sustained by limited class sizes, allowing the faculty to hone in on the individual. Bowmer and Boulter are selective about the dancers they train, seeking only exceptional artists that they can mentor. In this way, each Ev & Bow student benefits from dedicated and individualised teaching, helping them to realise their potential in a nurturing environment. When they graduate, they are well equipped to work in the industry.

“An Ev & Bow graduate leaves our courses with the opportunity and tools to audition for companies both nationally and internationally,” describes Bowmer. “Our students are also so highly trained across all dance genres that they have the skill set to embark on a musical theatre and commercial career if they choose. Through the years of training at Ev & Bow, students undergo a series of professional development engaging them on how to interact professionally in the industry.”

Indeed, Ev & Bow graduates are working professionally all over the world, spanning varying genres. “We are proud to have graduates working with Sydney Dance Company, Australian Dance Theatre, Dancenorth, Chunky Move, The Human Expression, Branch Nebula, Legs On The Wall and Cirque du Soleil,” shares Bowmer. “We’ve also had graduates performing in shows like West Side Story, Cats, The Lion King, The King and I, and Moulin Rouge, and at Universal Studios, Disney, Opera Australia and on cruise ships.”

Ev & Bow offers two-year intensive programs to help students attain the Certificate IV in Dance CUA40113, Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance) CUA50113 or Cert IV in Dance Teaching & Management (Online course) CUA40313. This gives students some flexibility over where they want to focus their efforts – in performance or teaching. The best way to get to know the courses and the faculty in advance is to attend an Open Day.

“Our Open Day is an insight into the training and faculty we offer at Ev & Bow,” says Bowmer. “The students will take four classes in varying genres and have an opportunity to have a Q&A with directors and industry panel. We look for a hardworking, passionate student with a willingness to learn. We seek students who are adaptable, with a strong underlying technical base.”

Ev & Bow’s Open Day and First Audition will be held on 16 May. For more information or to register, contact info@evandbow.com.
