With a strong sense of confidence and talent to match, the Urban Dance Centre Full Time Performing Arts class of 2013, showcased why they’re ready to take on a career in the highly competitive performing arts world.

On the 21st of November the NIDA Parade theatre in Sydney was filled with parents, family members, teachers and friends, providing love and support to the twenty-five full time students at their end of year production titled Same Love, Same Life Urban Jam 2013.

The show opened in Urban Dance style with a dynamic Hip Hop piece by well respected commercial dance choreographer, Rosa Agius. It showcased a variety of Hip Hop styles including breaking, boogaloo, and popping and locking. As the show progressed, the versatility of the performers became evident with the creative work of students incorporated into the program. Ela Cartmell’s piece, Don’t Say You Love Me was a stylish dance work reminiscent of the1940’s World War 2 era, and full time student Bella Sammut choreographed and performed a passionate and heartfelt lyrical duo with Max Lambert called We Found Love.

A highlight of the evening was a contemporary dance piece First Conversation choreographed by Paul Saliba, alumni of The Australian Ballet and Sydney Dance Company. The students all in white filled the stage with pockets of intertwined movement that were both beautiful and intriguing. It was a piece worthy of a professional contemporary dance company.

Over the course of the evening we also got to know the students a little better through a series of short videos revealing the personalities of the performers. The students shared how they would change the world and what they love in life, leaving the audience to ponder the question ‘What do you love?’

For the graduating full time students at Urban Dance Centre the answer to this question was clear. Their love, passion and enjoyment for dance was evident throughout the show, and it is these qualities along with their talent, hard work and dedication that will carry them through as they embark on their professional performing arts careers.
