A brand-new professional theatre is opening in the heart of Sydney’s Inner West. Teatro, a 300-seat venue in the historic Italian Forum at Leichhardt was recently announced, offering world-class, fully staged musicals and professional productions.
Led by internationally acclaimed theatre creatives Nathan M. Wright and Andrew Bevis, Teatro will bring Broadway and West End titles to local audiences, starting with The Addams Family this October, followed by the Australian premiere of The Prom in 2026.
“We’re creating the kind of theatre venue Sydney is crying out for — bold, professional and artist-led,” says Wright. “Teatro is here to raise the bar for what audiences can expect from musical theatre in the Inner West.”
Teatro – the Italian word for theatre – fills a crucial gap in Sydney’s cultural landscape, offering a permanent home for professionally produced musicals in an area known for its creative energy. As a new cultural anchor in Leichhardt, Teatro will create opportunities for Australia’s top musical theatre talent and present premium theatre at affordable ticket prices for families and theatre lovers.

Alongside its public productions, Teatro will also house an in-residence company, THEatreBRIDGE, where Australia’s leading stage professionals’ mentor and train the next generation of musical theatre stars.
To launch its premiere season, On Your Feet and Teatro proudly presents the darkly delightful The Addams Family musical, a fully staged production, brought to life by Australia’s newest musical theatre stars, many of whom are graduates of the acclaimed THEatreBRIDGE program. The show will be a perfect introduction to Teatro’s mission of supporting young performers and giving them a chance to apply everything they’ve learned into a full scaled production. The Addams Family commences on 3 October and tickets are now available here.
Following The Addams Family, Teatro will showcase the Australian premiere of the hit Broadway musical The Prom in 2026. This exuberant, heartwarming show about acceptance, love and friendship will strike a chord with the diverse and inclusive spirit of the Inner West community. The waitlist for tickets to The Prom is now open at www.teatroitalianforum.com.au.
“We are beyond excited to bring The Prom to Australia for the first time,” says Wright. “It’s a show that’s full of joy, heart and positivity, with themes of community, self-expression and acceptance. We believe it’s the perfect fit for the vibrant and inclusive community that we’re looking forward to serving here at Teatro.”
As Teatro continues to grow, it will host a range of events designed to foster creative exchange and celebrate the performing arts in all its forms. From professional theatre productions to cabaret, comedy nights, workshops, masterclasses and family-friendly events, Teatro will become a cornerstone of Sydney’s cultural scene — offering something for everyone.
“We want Teatro to be a home for artists, audiences and everyone in between,” says Bevis. “This is a space where people can come together, share their stories and experience the power of live theatre. We’re committed to providing a platform for emerging talent and creating a place that reflects the diverse, creative spirit of our community.”
