Australasian Dance Collective is thrilled to announce one of their most ambitious undertakings to date. Bad Nature is a thrilling collaborative project between Australasian Dance Collective, Club Guy & Roni (CGR), one of the Netherlands’ most innovative dance companies, and celebrated multidisciplinary artist Boris Acket.

World-renowned Dutch designer Boris Acket creates the synthetic world of Bad Nature, with transformative environments that blend sound, light, and kinetic sculptures to mimic the natural world. These hypnotic installations morph and mutate throughout the performance, heightening the sense of change and volatility in a striking portrayal of our world, serving as both a canvas and a container for the performers. The costumes of the 12 performers have been designed by fashion house Maison the Faux.

Boris Acket is a contemporary artist and composer that works with sound, light, and motion to explore the interplay between control and surrender in the (natural) world. Initially rooted in electronic music and club culture, Acket‘s practice evolved to challenge the boundaries between sound art, music, and performance space, often blurring distinctions between exhibitions and club experiences.

Maison the Faux specialises in performance art, fashion and costume design, and set and interior design, the work of the studio is determined by its multidisciplinary approach. Maison the Faux aims to create work that finds the perfect synergy between many creative arts, inviting audiences to be part of the Maison the Faux universe.

Led by Amy Hollingsworth and Jack Lister alongside Guy Weizman and Roni Haver, Bad Nature will bring together an ensemble of 12 dancers—six from ADC and six from CGR—who will perform alongside three musicians: two from HIIIT and an independent Australian percussionist.

Guy Weizman and Roni Haver founded Club Guy & Roni in 2002, in Groningen, The Netherlands. In their work, they focus on contemporary subjects with the aim to inspire, confront and move audiences. As a company, Club Guy & Roni continuously works to push the boundaries of contemporary dance, investing a great effort in contributing to the evolution of the discipline by allowing it to respectfully clash with other disciplines such as text theater, music, fashion and visual arts.

The sound of HIIIT (formerly known as Slagwerk Den Haag) embraces diversity, ranging from traditional percussion to unconventional audio sources such as porcelain and 3D-printed instruments. In collaboration with contemporary artists and producers, HIIIT explore new musical horizons, fostering innovation and experimentation in the world of music.

Bad Nature is a production of great scale and ambition, reflecting the best and worst of humanity. Confronting and tender, this unmissable work is rich with allegories of control, love, destruction, and ultimately, hope. A Brisbane Festival exclusive, Bad Nature, combines awe-inspiring movement, multisensory design, international collaboration, couture, and more to push the boundaries of perception. It runs 3-7 September at Brisbane Powerhouse. Book now.
