Designed by Ausdance VIC for dance teachers, studio owners, pre-professional and professional dancers, the Safe Dance® online course outlines the core principles of safe dance, covering anatomy basics, injury prevention strategies and legal obligations.
This course draws from the Safe Dance® practice recommendations, developed from over 30 years of rigorous research by the Ausdance network into dancer injury prevention, wellbeing, and health.

Safe Dance® equips participants with a comprehensive set of skills to enhance their dance instruction capabilities. Learners will gain the ability to foster positive self-esteem, assertiveness, and independence in dancers, while also guiding students through challenges with a balanced training approach and realistic personal goal-setting. Participants will develop an understanding of how flooring, lighting, temperature, and ventilation contribute to a safe and effective dance environment, alongside the capacity to create physically secure spaces and maintain optimal conditions for classes.
The curriculum also includes knowledge and skills to design exercises tailored to students’ age, development, and control levels, as well as expertise in implementing effective warm-up and cool-down routines. Additionally, learners will be prepared to respond promptly and appropriately to accidents, injuries, and illnesses, ensuring a holistic approach to dance education and safety.
Safe Dance® Practice is a self-paced, online professional learning course that seamlessly integrates research, simulated learning, and quizzes to guide participants through six essential topics.
This comprehensive program explores the fundamentals of Safe Dance, delving into anatomy basics and injury prevention, while emphasizing the creation of safe physical environments. It also provides practical insights into supervising and monitoring children, adapting techniques for working with seniors and elders, and understanding legal obligations, ensuring a well-rounded approach to fostering safety and compliance in dance education across diverse age groups.
The course lasts 6-10 hours, and you will have 3 months from the date of enrolment to complete it.
The cost for Ausdance Member is $135. You will need to log in to their Member Portal via their home page to access the member discount. Cost for Non-Members is $150. If you aren’t an Ausdance ACT member, and are interested in joining, you can join at MEMBERSHIP | Ausdance ACT.
