The 2023 South Australia Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Awards, held on July 8 and 9 at the Adelaide College of the Arts, recently concluded, marking a momentous celebration of exceptional dance talent in the region, with 115 students entered. This is the 51st year these Awards have run in South Australia, making them the longest running RAD Awards event in Australia.

Under the expert adjudication of Melissa McCabe and accompanied by pianist Grant Kennedy, with classes taught by Lilliana Lloyd, the event showcased remarkable performances by young dancers from various prestigious dance studios in South Australia. The Winner of the Joyce Clothier OAM Scholarship for Grades was awarded to Sofia Grace Lydyard, from Terry Simpson Studios, and the winner of the Eileen Hogarth Award for Vocational Grades was Alannah Hefford, from Turning Point Dance.

The results of the 2023 South Australia RAD Awards are as follows:

Badenoch Iversen Award for Grades 2-3:

Winner – Emika Ichinohe (Vivienne Winter School of Ballet)

Runner-Up – Emelia Petronzio, (GWB Studios)

Gwen Mackey Award for Grades 4-5:           

Winner – Sofia Grace Lydyard, (GWB Studios)

Runner-Up – Trinity-Star Roach (GWB Studios)

Jacqueline Tucker Award for Grades 6,7,8:

Winner – Leila Morales (Terry Simpson Studios)

Runner-Up – Ava Loveridge (Terry Simpson Studios)

Sheila Laing Training Enhancement Award:

Mia Griffiths (Terry Simpson Studios)

Terry Simpson Encouragement Award:

Roux Walter-Engelsma (Vivienne Winter School of Ballet)

Joyce Clothier OAM Scholarship:

Floyd & B’Nay Award for Intermediate Foundation:

Winner – Mia Griffiths (Terry Simpson Studios)

Runner-Up – Julianne Sison (Turning Point Dance)

Sir Robert Helpmann Award for Intermediate and Advanced Foundation:

Winner – Alannah Hefford (Turning Point Dance)

Runner-Up-  Mai-Ly Tran (Turning Point Dance)

Kathleen Short Memorial Cup for Advanced 1,2 and Solo Seal:

Winner – Lila Cox (Terry Simpson Studios)

Runner-Up – Masato Rafinian, (Turning Point Dance/Michelle Hofmann)

Lorraine Irving OAM Scholarship:

Eileen Hogarth Award:

The RAD acknowledges the incredible commitment, talent and hard work demonstrated by all the competing dancers, as well as the invaluable contribution of their teachers and dance studios.
