In anticipation of Bangarra’s return to the Sydney Opera House stage next month, the company is sharing behind-the-scenes footage of its SandSong: Stories from the Great Sandy Desert rehearsals at its Walsh Bay studios.
In this second instalment of the SandSong Studio Series, Associate Artistic Director Frances Rings works closely with the Bangarra women to create the story of the Coolamon. Known as a traditional carrying vessel, the Coolamon is instrumental for transportation of water, food and other objects.
SandSong: Stories from the Great Sandy Desert is a journey into ancient story systems framed against the backdrop of ever-changing government policy and of the survival of people determined to hold strong to their culture.
Bangarra will present SandSong: Stories from the Great Sandy Desert at the Sydney Opera House from 10 June – 10 July. Tickets are now on sale, and also available for the preview performance on 9 June. For more, head to my.bangarra.com.au/sandsong-sydney-2021.
