The McDonald College has announced the appointment of BJ Rorke as its new Head of Dance (Performing Arts) commencing in 2026.
Rorke joins the school with extensive industry and educational experience, currently serving as the Youth Training Manager at Brent Street, where he oversees the Young Performers, Petites and PTP programs. He is also the founder of the highly regarded NXTGEN Project, which provides authentic industry training and performance opportunities for young dancers across Australia and New Zealand.
A respected educator and choreographer, Rorke has contributed to a wide range of workshops and events through the Arts Unit, including his notable role as a choreographer for the iconic televised event Schools Spectacular. His professional choreography credits span television, commercial and studio work, with highlights including the hit series Dance Academy and projects for artists such as Anja Nissen.
With a strong foundation in jazz, contemporary, hip hop as well as tap, lyrical and musical theatre, Rorke’s work has been featured in studios and programs throughout Australia and New Zealand. With over 20 years of teaching experience, he brings a deep passion for nurturing and developing young talent.
Rorke is also a familiar face to many in the school’s community, having been a McDonald College student himself earlier in his dance journey. The McDonald College says they are thrilled to welcome him back and look forward to the expertise, energy and vision he will bring to the role as we continue the exceptional work led by Jane Beckett and Michael Hughes.
