Dance the Magic, the organisation that literally brings magic to dance studios and their students and community by offering a chance to perform on some of the most amazing stages such as Walt Disney World and Disneyland, is celebrating 25 years. And to honour this exceptional milestone, Dance the Magic will be holding a celebratory Hawaiian Retreat at Aulani, a Disney Resort and Spa on the island of O’ahu, from July 27-31, 2026 – and you’re invited!
The event promises to be a special and memorable one, with unforgettable entertainment, learning opportunities, a festive atmosphere, meaningful connection and of course a once-in-a-lifetime performance opportunity as part of the pre-show for the event’s lu’au. While in paradise, studios and their dance families can partake in character meet-and-greets, photo shoots, hula lessons, dance workshops, Q&As with industry professionals, director seminars, exciting rehearsals and even choreography opportunities.

To learn more about Dance the Magic’s upcoming 25th Anniversary Celebration and some of the highlights of the past two-and-a-half decades, Dance Informa speaks with the amazing mother-daughter team behind it all, Debi Barr and Jennilee Barr.
Twenty-five years of Dance the Magic?! That’s an incredible milestone! How does it feel, and did you ever think this business could grow as much as it has?
Debi Barr
“It’s truly incredible to look back and see how much Dance the Magic has grown — and how many amazing dancers from around the world we’ve had the joy of connecting with! Nearly 25 years ago, I reached out to Disney with a dream: to create magical, unforgettable dance experiences for young studio dancers, performing in beautiful costumes with exciting choreography on the most enchanting stage of all — Main Street, U.S.A. I’m so deeply grateful for the wonderful partnership we’ve built with Disney and our many amazing collaborators over the years. Together, we’ve been able to turn that dream into a reality — bringing joy, inspiration, and lifelong memories to dancers and their families from all over the world.”
Why did you choose Hawaii as the destination for the 25th Anniversary Celebration? And what are you most looking forward to about celebrating Dance the Magic in such a gorgeous setting?
Debi

“After 25 incredible years, I felt inspired to create a new opportunity — one that offers both
renewal and growth, all wrapped in the magic only Disney can bring. And what better place than Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa in breathtaking Hawaii! The serene beauty of Aulani, paired with the warm aloha spirit and Disney’s signature touch, creates an atmosphere that’s truly unforgettable. I’m especially excited for the lu’au, where our dancers will take the stage in stunning costumes, surrounded by vibrant greenery, while embracing the rich traditions of Hawaiian culture. It fills my heart with joy to be able to share this special aloha experience with the dancers, studio owners, directors and partners who have been such an important part of Dance the Magic’s journey. I can’t wait for what’s to come!”
What are some of the exciting offerings for dance studio owners, teachers and dancers at this Hawaiian retreat? Why is it a ‘must-attend’?
Jennilee Barr
“Kicking off the event, we will be hosting a Welcome party for dancers and their families with a DJ, custom ear making, hula dancing and, of course, the iconic Disney characters. Morning dance workshops with the afternoon free so dancers can spend time with their families and enjoy the resort. Director’s seminars to inspire your studio leaders heading into the next dance season. And ending with a special pre-show Lu’au performance featuring our Dance the Magic dancers! Special guests include Julie Kay Stallcup, Katy Tate, Tiffany Maher, Alan Collins, and more!”
How does it feel to be a part of Dance the Magic over these years?
Jennilee
“Dance the Magic was built in my family home, so it holds a very special place near and dear to my heart. Seeing the company grow and evolve throughout the past 25 years has been such an adventure and true joy to be a part of. I’m so grateful to all of our dance studios who have made Dance the Magic a consistent part of their studio’s schedule to allow us to continue creating magic.”

What have been some of your personal highlights over the years at Dance the Magic?
Debi
“One of the most unforgettable highlights of the past 25 years has been performing in the Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade on ABC-TV for over a decade! The magic of those moments, shared with so many talented dancers, is something I’ll never forget. The energy, the joy, the sparkle of the season — I still get chills just thinking about it! Those memories will forever hold a special place in my heart.
One of my proudest personal achievements has been the meaningful connections and shared experiences we’ve built with studio owners, directors, tour operators and their incredible dance families. Having once been a studio owner myself, I truly understand the day-to-day joys and challenges they face. It means so much to me to be able to offer support, create a strong sense of community and walk alongside them on this journey. That connection is something I hold very close to my heart. I’ve had the joy of watching young dancers take part in our events and leave feeling truly inspired to pursue their passion for dance. I’ve seen moms and grandmas share the magic of performing alongside their children and grandchildren in the very same parade. So often, a parent will come up to me during an event and say, ‘I danced in a Dance the Magic parade when I was younger — and now I’m here with my own child, giving them the same unforgettable experience.’ Moments like these fill me with pride and deep gratitude. It means the world to know we’re creating memories that last a lifetime.”
Jennilee
“We are so fortunate to have so many returning studios year after year, and I love being able to see a dancer grow from event to event. There are dancers who have attended over 10 events with us, and it is special to see them blossom as a performer and to be a part of their dance journey as they now embark in the professional world!
I also love collaborating with our Disney Partners and the wonderful partnership we have built over the years. As the Artistic Director, my goal is to try to keep our event themes aligned with what is happening in the world of Disney. I love when we can create a parade routine that brings the nostalgia of a Disney story with a fresh Dance the Magic take!”
Where do you hope Dance the Magic will go and flourish over the next 5, 10, 25 years?
Debi

“As I look ahead to the next 5, 10, even 25 years, my greatest hope is that Dance the Magic continues to inspire dancers from all around the world and strengthen our global dance community through joyful, lasting experiences. I’m excited for the journey ahead — discovering new ways to grow, exploring new places and building meaningful new relationships. More than anything, I hope that each dancer who meets and collaborates with others from different cultures and countries carries forward a spirit of kindness, connection and unity that helps shape a brighter, more compassionate future.”
Any final reflections ahead of the 25th anniversary?
Debi
“As we celebrate 25 years in this incredible industry — through the highs and the challenges of a global pandemic — I’m filled with so much appreciation for everyone who has believed in us and been part of this journey. To those who continue to join us and share these magical opportunities with their dance families, thank you. I truly can’t wait to see what the next 25 years will bring as we keep building connections and opening doors for dancers around the world.”
Jennilee
“It is such a gift to do what we do and to bring dancers from all around the world to share their love and passion for dance in the most magical way! We are beyond grateful for the past 25 years, and we cannot wait to see what’s in store for the magic ahead in the years to come!”
