Co3 Contemporary Dance Australia celebrates 10 years on the stage in 2025 with a season lineup reflecting the company’s commitment to inspiring and enriching lives through contemporary dance. In 2025 Co3 honours legacy and continues to create history.
The 2025 season of Co3 Contemporary Dance Australia showcases IN.HOUSE and IN.RESIDENCE, two pillars of the Pathways Program that nurture artistic exploration among dance makers in the industry. In September, Raewyn Hill’s new creation, IN THE SHADOW OF TIME, premieres in collaboration with the Australian Chamber Orchestra Collective, featuring costumes designed by fashion luminary Akira Isogawa. The season also includes a tour of this work, the revival of public dance classes, a youth dance camp, and the introduction of a new performance venue at the Liberty Theatre, rounding out an exhilarating program.
Artistic Director Raewyn Hill said, “Over the past ten years, we have built a home for contemporary dance here in Boorloo, Australia – one that embraces risk, innovation and the power of human connection. I am filled with immense pride and gratitude to be an artistic custodian of this company and share with you our program for 2025. This milestone season is a reflection of our journey, and a bold step into the future.”
IN.HOUSE, one of the two Pathways initiatives, brings artists directly into Co3’s home in 2025, at the Liberty Theatre, creating the opportunity for choreographic exploration. IN.HOUSE provides time and space for new artistic ideas to develop within the Co3 community. WA dance makers Laura Boynes and Kimberley Parkin share the initiative.
The second, IN.RESIDENCE from 18-22 June is GATHERING.1, an electrifying celebration showcasing the best of WA’s talent. This unforgettable evening brings together works by Mitch Harvey, Logan Ringshaw, Kimberley Parkin, and Artistic Director Raewyn Hill. This is an immersive night at the Liberty Theatre, where audiences and performers connect at eye level. Live soundscapes by award-winning DJ Mowgli and DJ Aslan, and stunning lighting and projections by Mark Haslam, transform the space into a sensory feast. With show activations from long-time collaborators LINK Dance Company and themes of unity, ritual, celebration and human connection, GATHERING.1 defines contemporary art with Co3’s unique signature.
Raewyn Hill’s new creation IN THE SHADOW OF TIME is presented at the Liberty Theatre from 17 – 20 September. It is a poignant exploration of aging, resilience, and the unseen forces that shape our lives. Five dancers move on a rotating stage, echoing the relentless passage of time. Beneath them, a single figure pushes the stage symbolising the quiet support that carries us through life’s challenges. Drawing inspiration from the precision of a Japanese tea ceremony, the work captures the exchange of energy and fleeting truths between people, offering a powerful meditation on human connection and endurance. It is performed by five Co3 dancers in collaboration with live music from the Australian Chamber Orchestra Collective spanning 1,000 years.
Visionary Australian fashion designer Akira Isogawa will craft the costumes, upcycling, reimagining and recreating from his previous collections, and Hill’s long-time collaborator Mark Haslam will shape the lighting for this monumental piece. This work will then tour to Margaret River, Albany and Bunbury, as part of the company’s new REGIONAL touring program.
Co3 introduces IN.CLASS (April 28 – May 15 and July 14 – August 1), offering community dance classes tailored for both junior and senior participants, alongside DANCE CAMP (April 14 – 17 and July 7 – 11), immersive school holiday programs designed for young movers and creators. Guided by Co3’s Teaching Artists and Company Dancers, these camps provide an ideal setting for young dancers to hone their skills, discover innovative approaches to movement, and bond with peers in the historic Liberty Theatre, nestled in the heart of Perth City.
