What do Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and Lady Gaga have in common? Yes, they’re all amazing performers, and their songs get stuck in our head endlessly (in a good way!). But what else? Well, they all also wear a brand that many of you – as professional dancers, dance students or dance educators – probably do. And that brand is one that has been around for nearly 150 years – Capezio

The list doesn’t stop there. Capezio Cadence Tap Shoes were the sound of sweet tapping penguins in animated musical comedy Happy Feet. Will Ferrell wore custom Capezio shoes in the hilarious holiday classic, Elf. Cast members in SIX the Musical wear Capezio Professional Fishnet Tights, and other touring shows like Mamma Mia! The Musical order Capezio apparel as a standard. And the brand has produced many custom shoes for a variety of other musical theatre shows.

All of this just goes to show that professionals and celebrities choose Capezio for a reason – because the brand has shown its reliability and consistency for decades. It is a brand that dancers have learned they can trust and turn to again and again when they’re hunting for their latest (or favourite!) dancewear and shoes for auditions, rehearsals, performances and tours.

We at Dance Informa thought it would be fun to take a peek at some of Capezio’s exciting new products, so that you can be a trailblazer yourself!

As a dancer, you’ll be called on to do many styles in your career, and everyone needs a solid character shoe for those musical theatre auditions, precision dance classes and more. Capezio has just launched the Shanel Character Shoe, a sophisticated, Broadway-style shoe. The shoe is built to last, made from high-quality, durable Nappa leather. Dancers will feel stable and comfortable in this shoe – it features a 2.5” contoured heel, a cushioned insole which molds to the foot and a soft suede sole for enhancing foot articulation. The shoe’s rounded toe box also enhances a dancer’s stability and balance, and professionals will feel comfortable and confident wearing the shoe even during long rehearsal days. The Shanel comes in adult sizes only, and with its amazing qualities and reasonable cost, we are expecting to see a lot of Shanel Character Shoes around town.

Yes, Capezio is a natural choice for the seasoned performer. But the brand is also great for the new dancer – having products that are so well designed and with dancers’ needs in mind can help even those just beginning to flourish and develop as a dancer.

The AcroKat shoe came out last year but has been growing in popularity, most likely due to the shoe’s stretch and comfort. Plus, having a shoe with cushioned toe and heel pads that is literally designed for impact protection from landing jumps and tricks is a gift! We expect to see more and more teachers and studio owners recommending this shoe to their dancers for competitions, concerts and conventions. The AcroKat is available in adult and child sizes, and can last with a dancer along their journey, offering them confidence and conviction.

We are in awe of Capezio’s new Bunheads® Miniflex Gel Kneepad. They are not only discreet and seamless, making it easy to wear onstage for that added protection, but they are also super soft and comfortable, unlike other kneepads which can dig into the skin, appear bulky and just be a nuisance. Miniflex are constructed from high quality padding over a gel middle layer, and the soft elastic back allows for easy pull on while keeping the kneepad securely in place. A kneepad like this can prevent injuries, which is a comfort to every dancer.

Dancers not only need practical things in their dance bag – shoes, tights, crucial accessories. They also need something fun that will make them feel and move with confidence and passion. Luckily, Capezio has just launched some new fashion drops so we can get some new items in our dance drawer for the new year.

We absolutely love the new All-Over Rhinestone Tights, which are glamourous and so fun! These fishnet tights are adorned with iridescent rhinestones and come in three shades. They would make for an incredible costume accessory in a dance concert or professional performance. This is a brand new product, so be sure to be among the first to flaunt them today!

Capezio’s brand new Velvet Forest collection is stunning. The leotards come in warm jewel tones and combine the elegance of velvet with a modern touch of mesh. The collection also comes in all sizes, including plus sizes, because dancers come in all shapes – and finally the dance industry is beginning to embrace the diversity of movers, which has been a mission of Capezio’s all along.

For something incredibly fun for the dancing child or gymnast in your life, consider the Pixel Pop collection. The styles and colours exude magic and good vibes. Check out the long-sleeved Pixel Pop Wavelength Leotard, with its vibrant three-colour design and breathtaking u-back design. And for those aspiring ballerinas, the new Regency Royal Leotard is unique and elegant, with a pinched front and touches of velvet detailing. The adjustable straps will ensure this classic leo can last for your little bunhead.

Dancers are not cookie cutter movers; they are individual, creative artists, and they deserve dancewear and footwear that can allow them to be and feel creative, elegant, dynamic and colourful. They also deserve products that are created with the professional in mind – built to last and created to help you thrive.
