Rhiannon Villareal, star of So You Think You Can Dance Season One, has put her dancing shoes aside (for the moment) to concentrate on a new music career. Her debut single, Big Boys, has just been released.
Hear what Rhiannon had to say about this exicting new venture….
We know you as a dancer, has singing always been one of your passions?
I have always wanted to be a singer/dancer/actor since I was little, but dancing was always the first priority. After being on SYTYCD I realised I had accomplished all I could for the time being in the ‘dance world’ so it was time to finally venture into the music industry. It’s definitely a challenge because it’s a totally different industry and a whole different ball game. A good way to explain it is to imagine if you walked into your first ballet class, and heard ballet terminology for the first time. It is literally a different language to learn (laughs).
How would you describe your music?
My music is pop/rnb, though my first single Big Boys is more rnb/hip hop.
Big Boys, my first single, has a catchy hook, is fairly funky, and a little cheeky!
Where do you hope your singing will lead to?
I hope my singing career leads to huge success… I would love a long lasting career in the music industry! Of course incorporating dance as a huge part of it.
One of my upcoming goals is to perform on SYTYCD next year… fingers crossed!
Who has been influential in making this happen for you?
Besides this being one of my biggest dreams ever, I guess my friends and family have really helped me along the way. My parents always knew I wanted a career in singing, so I guess when the time was right for me to step into the recording studio, they supported me.
My girls have always known I wanted to be a recording artist so I guess they were also a huge part of pushing me to contact the right people and actually start recording. My girls are always the first on the phone after I finish a recording session. They are the first people to hear my new music.
Israel my producer has also helped me along the way. He was the person pushing me to get into the studio with him and record!
Do you have an active role in the choreography for your video clips? What choreographers are you working with?
I’m yet to organise a video clip for Big Boys as it’s such a huge process, but I will most probably choreograph it, then have an assistant to make sure it all looks right!
Next week though I am getting Ame Delves to choreograph Big Boys for me and two female back-up dancers for any upcoming corporate shows, club gigs…etc
Where can we buy your music?
You can buy my music from ITUNES or the BIGPOND website!!
