The Australian Youth Dance Festival returns this April

The Australian Youth Dance Festival (AYDF) is back in 2017, and for the first time ever, AYDF will be held in a major city – Melbourne!

Under the artistic direction of Adam Wheeler, AYDF2017 is remodelled to provide new opportunities for young people to access some of the finest dance experiences available in Australia, in a supportive, non-competitive environment that encourages participation and learning.

Yellow Wheel dance companyOpen to young dancers aged 14-25 from all across Australia, this three-and-a-half-day festival includes: technique masterclasses; choreographic intensives with some of Australia’s most respected and prolific dance artists, choreographers and dance companies; and a forum for youth dance leaders.

The masterclasses feature a slew of industry experts, such as Kristina Chan, Phillip Adams (Balletlab), Jo Lloyd and ilDance (Sweden).

Excitingly, AYDF2017 will also present Emergence, a showcase premiering excerpts from at least six new works from leading youth dance companies and youth dancers across the country, including Quantum Leap (ACT), Yellow Wheel (VIC) and Flipside (NSW).

Overall, AYDF aims to continue shining a light on the vibrant and diverse youth dance sector in Australia, whilst encouraging participation and learning, and providing young people opportunities to be the next generation of creators and leaders. Ausdance National first launched AYDF in 1996 to better connect and invest in youth dancers – and that is still the core mission.
