Master the Music Theatre Audition with WAAPA

Musical Theatre Audition Masterclass by WAAPA

The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) will soon host its annual Music Theatre Audition Masterclass Tour, coming to Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and WAAPA’s hometown of Perth between July and September. This masterclass seeks to demystify what can be a daunting process – the musical audition.

Run by WAAPA’s Coordinator of Music Theatre David King and Resident Director Crispin Taylor, this masterclass will give participants techniques to deal with the most challenging musical audition. The three-hour session includes mock auditions for singing, acting and dance, and prepares auditionees for all challenges from the cattle-call to the call-back.

The course will navigate the many details of the audition, from choice of material, to appropriate preparation, to audition etiquette, to dealing with nerves. As French chemist Louis Pasteur famously said, “Chance favors only the prepared.” So come get prepared with WAAPA!

Students will also learn about personal presentation, how to work with accompanists and how to take direction. At the end of each masterclass, there will be an opportunity for participants to ask questions.

WAAPA’s Music Theatre Audition Masterclass is suitable for professional and amateur performers, teachers and prospective WAAPA students aged 15 and older. See dates for each class listed below. For further information, head to www.waapa.ecu.edu.au.

Also, interested teen dancers may want to take note of WAAPA’s Mid-Year Music Theatre Workshop, a brilliant week-long workshop for the triple threat performer taking place during the school holidays from Monday, July 4 to Friday, July 8.
